About this Course

Delivered in partnership with Medics Camp. Discover the fascinating world of medical science, health and the human body. As a junior medic, you will uncover the mysteries of germs, learning how diseases spread and infections take hold. You will also become familiar with the heart’s functions and practice using real medical equipment to check vitals. A pig heart dissection will offer a unique opportunity for you to see how your own heart operates as a central hub for pumping blood and understand the components of this life-sustaining fluid. Then, you’ll create your own fake blood to take home after observing a cow’s long bone and discovering how blood cells are made in the process of hematopoiesis. The adventure continues with an exploration of the skeletal system, where you’ll analyze x-rays and practice applying splints, casts and slings. But it doesn’t stop there! Breathing emergencies like asthma, anaphylaxis and choking are also covered, and you’ll learn precisely how the lungs work and how to respond in critical situations. Finally, on First Aid Friday, you’ll sharpen those first aid skills, including how and when to call 911 during a real emergency. Note: The camp day is 8:30am to 4:30pm. Camp programming runs from 9am to 4pm. Before & After Care is available for campers who require care before the camp day begins, from 7:30-8:30am, and after the camp day has ended, from 4:30-6pm. Separate registration is required.
